Solar thermal in MagiCAD for Revit

MagiCAD does not have a dedicated solar-thermal module (no irradiation, collector efficiency curves, yield simulation, stagnation, etc.). Vacuum tube roof collectors are modelled as a hydronic piping system on top of Revit.

What you can do:

Modelling
  • Place vacuum tube collectors as MagiCAD products / Revit families on the roof (hosted or face-based). Use manufacturer datasets if available, otherwise MagiCAD Create / a custom family.
  • Build the collector array, headers, flow/return, glycol circuit, heat exchanger, buffer/DHW tank, pump group, expansion vessel, safety valves, air vents, mixing valves.
  • Route pipes in 3D with MagiCAD Piping (fittings, insulation, slopes, MagiCAD Supports).
  • Split primary (solar/glycol) and secondary (heating/DHW) as separate MagiCAD systems so calculations stay clean.

Calculations (Piping)
  • Pipe sizing, flow rates, pressure drop, balancing.
  • Pump duty from network resistance.
  • Not solar-specific: no aperture area / IAM / η0-a1-a2 yield, no monthly kWh, no collector-field hydraulics beyond a normal closed circuit.

Documentation / BIM
  • BOMs, schedules, IFC, clash check vs architecture/structure.
  • MagiCAD Schematics for the solar circuit P&ID-style diagram.
  • Tags, system colours, insulation take-off.

Practical split
Use MagiCAD + Revit for layout, piping, coordination and quantities. Do yield, collector count, storage sizing and stagnation/expansion in T*SOL, Polysun or similar, then lock the array size and pipe the result in MagiCAD.

If you have a specific manufacturer (Viessmann, Vaillant, etc.) or MagiCAD dataset, say which one — product availability varies a lot.

MagiCloud vs vacuum-tube solar

I cannot give you a live, complete dump of MagiCloud (catalogue is region-filtered, changes constantly, and a lot of heating brands upload boilers/radiators/pumps without uploading collectors). Treat this as a practical check of the usual suspects, not a certificate that a dataset exists on your MagiCAD version/region.

How to verify yourself (2 min per brand)
MagiCloud search → product type Heating / Piping → manufacturer filter → MagiCAD for Revit. Search both English and German terms: solar collector, vacuum tube, evacuated tube, Röhrenkollektor, Vakuumröhre, Sonnenkollektor, solar thermal.

If it is not a MagiCAD product (only a dumb Revit family / IFC), it will not size, calculate or schedule like MagiCAD piping.

Collectors (the weak point)

Full MagiCAD datasets for roof vacuum-tube arrays are rare. MagiCAD has no solar-yield module, so manufacturers have little reason to maintain intelligent collector products there. Typical picture:

  • Viessmann – strong MagiCloud heating presence (boilers, buffers, pumps, valves). Vitosol vacuum tubes: do not count on a proper MagiCAD collector dataset; often only generic Revit/BIM elsewhere.
  • Vaillant – same pattern (heat pumps, boilers, cylinders). auroTHERM tubes usually not a MagiCAD calculation product.
  • Bosch / Buderus / Junkers – MagiCloud yes for heat generators; solar collectors generally no.
  • Wolf, Weishaupt, Stiebel Eltron, Solvis, De Dietrich, ACV, Ariston, Baxi – heating kit sometimes; vacuum-tube collectors almost never as MagiCAD products.
  • Ritter / Paradigma, Kingspan Thermomax, Greenonetec, TiSUN, Wagner, Citrin, Thermosolar, Apricus, Sunrain / Linuo – specialist collector brands. MagiCloud is usually empty or only a token object. Check their own BIM portal / BIMobject instead.

What is commonly on MagiCloud (use this for the circuit)

These are the parts you can actually pipe and calculate in MagiCAD today:

  • Pumps – Grundfos, Wilo (solar/glycol circulators often exist as MagiCAD pumps even if the collector does not).
  • Expansion / air / safety – Reflex, Flamco, Pneumatex, Zilmet.
  • Valves, mixing, commissioning – Oventrop, Danfoss, IMI/TA, Herz, Giacomini, Honeywell/Resideo.
  • Pump groups / solar stations – hit-and-miss: PAW, Meibes/Watts, Caleffi, sometimes Oventrop. Search solar station / solar pump group / Solarstation.
  • Tanks / DHW – manufacturer-dependent (Viessmann, Vaillant, Reflex, Austria Email, etc.). Often a tank family without solar-coil MagiCAD data.
  • Pipes / insulation – Uponor, Rehau, Wavin, Geberit, plus MagiCAD generic piping. Solar-flex (Twinsolar, etc.) is frequently not in MagiCloud; model as MagiCAD pipe + insulation or a custom product.
  • Controllers – Resol, SOREL, manufacturer solar controllers: almost never MagiCAD-intelligent. 2D schematic / generic electrical object only.

Practical workflow
  • Size collectors, glycol %, vessel and stagnation outside MagiCAD (T*SOL / Polysun / manufacturer tool).
  • In Revit: generic or manufacturer Revit family for the vacuum-tube modules (roof-hosted).
  • Turn headers + primary/secondary into MagiCAD piping systems and calculate those.
  • If you need MagiCAD product data on the collector itself: MagiCAD Create (dummy product with connection nodes, flow, pressure drop) so the network still calculates.

If you name country + MagiCAD version + collector brand (e.g. Viessmann Vitosol 300-TM), someone can tell you whether a usable family exists at all — MagiCloud is the wrong place to expect a full solar-thermal catalogue.
