East Austin's Riverfront Gets a Long-Awaited Fresh Start

A Fresh Start for East Austin
Last month developers finally broke ground on a huge mixed-use project along the river. It will bring apartments, offices, shops, and parks to a stretch that has sat underused for years. Locals have been waiting for something like this.

Homes, Jobs, and Everyday Conveniences
The plans include more than 1,800 apartments, a good mix of shops and restaurants, plus office space meant for tech and creative firms. They also set aside plenty of green space and walking paths. The team says it should create thousands of construction jobs and later support hundreds of permanent ones.

Neighbors Weigh In
Some residents are excited about new places to live and hang out without a long commute. Others worry about extra traffic and whether rents nearby will climb. The developers have promised more public meetings as work continues.

What’s Next
Construction is already moving and the first buildings should open in about three years. It feels like one of those projects that could really change how the neighborhood looks and feels.
