They’re turning a bunch of old industrial buildings plus empty lots into a whole new neighborhood with housing, offices, parks, and shops. Thousands of new homes and jobs on the way
The plan includes over 3,000 apartments (a good chunk of them affordable), tons of new office space, and public green areas along the water. They’re also adding a new ferry stop and better bike paths. Construction kicked off in early November after years of planning, so we’re talking very recent news. Locals are already arguing about traffic and whether it’ll actually stay “Brooklyn” or turn into another fancy playground.
Why this one feels different
Unlike some of those glass-tower mega-projects that just appear overnight, this one is trying to keep some of the old warehouse character. They’re restoring a few historic buildings instead of knocking everything down. Still, it’s a $4-billion-plus investment, so yeah… it’s huge. The developer says it’ll create 8,000 jobs during construction and another 12,000 once it’s done.
