Hey team, great question about MagiCAD and any AI integration. With my HVAC master’s from the US and years managing MEP coordination on large construction projects, I’ve been following these tools closely.
From the 2024/2025 versions onward, Trimble has added some AI-assisted features to MagiCAD. The biggest ones I’ve seen are the smart routing suggestions for pipes and ducts that learn from previous designs and help avoid clashes in crowded ceilings. There’s also anomaly detection that scans the model for inconsistencies, plus better cloud-based product recommendations. These are real time-savers during the modeling phase.
That said, the core hydraulic heating calculations (pressure drop, flow balancing, valve preset values, pump sizing, and pipe dimensioning per applicable standards) are still handled by their established calculation engine. It’s not been replaced by AI; they’ve kept it as a proper engineering tool because accuracy and traceability matter too much on real jobs. I actually prefer that approach—AI is excellent for productivity helpers, but I want deterministic results when we’re balancing a heating system and submitting to the engineer of record.
On our current hospital project we’re using MagiCAD Heating & Piping, and the AI routing has cut down clash resolution time nicely. Still, we run every calc through the traditional module and cross-check with our external spreadsheets for critical zones.
Has anyone on the forum tried the latest AI routing on a live heating project? Curious how it performed for you guys in the field. Always happy to share our project setup if it helps.
